In a continued effort to combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA), APLE Cambodia collaborated with the Cambodian National Police. From December 5-13, 2024, they conducted a series of technical support meetings. The Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children, through UNICEF Cambodia, supported these meetings. They built upon previous trainings focused on Victim-focused Response and Investigation of OCSEA. The meetings gathered 51 participants, including 16 female attendees, comprising law enforcement officers and APLE staff.
The primary objective was to reinforce and enhance the core knowledge and skills of police officers in preventing and responding to OCSEA. This victim-focused approach underscores the importance of prioritizing child survivors’ needs and well-being throughout the investigative processA key aspect of the meeting emphasized promoting collaboration among multidisciplinary agencies involved in child protection. This approach recognizes OCSEA’s complex nature and the need for a coordinated response involving various stakeholders.
As online risks continue to emerge and evolve, such initiatives are crucial. They ensure law enforcement agencies are well-prepared to protect children in the digital space. This collaborative approach, combining APLE’s expertise and law enforcement capabilities, exemplifies shared responsibility and commitment. Through these efforts, Cambodia makes significant strides toward a safer online environment for children. The time to act is now in the ongoing fight against online child exploitation and abuse.
