APLE Cambodia is a leading child protection NGO operating in Cambodia since 2003, dedicated to strengthening social and legal mechanisms for the protection of children at risk of, or affected by, sexual abuse and exploitation. We’re now seeking to recruit a full time Legal Coordinator to be based in Phnom Penh. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist and coordinate the program planning, implementation and monitoring & evaluation (M&E)
  • Coordinate legal related work between lawyers, legal assistants and clients, including scheduling and arranging meetings and preparation for legal process participation
  • Coordinate program’s M&E activities with the team leader to ensure effective monitoring of the program implementation, including writing monitoring reports and documenting lessons
  • Supervise a full range of administrative and logistic assistance for the service provision, including drafting and/or reviewing of intervention letters, client’s requests for pro bono legal service and court related documents
  • Draft progress reports and related documents, including case studies, case summaries for submission to the team leader for check and approval
  • Monitor the court proceedings of all the on-going legal cases and take appropriate action 
  • Manage and maintain updates of the case files in accordance with the policy and guidelines
  • Maintain and update data files for clients and legal cases
  • Act as a primary contact point for legal queries from clients and other agencies           

Education, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law
  • Proficient understanding of the Cambodia legal system and laws, especially in the child protection area
  • At least 3 years relevant experience with the Cambodia legal system and monitoring court proceedings, especially those that involve children
  • At least 3 years relevant experience in advocacy in the area of child rights
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English and Khmer)
  • Good understanding of the development issues impacting vulnerable women and children in Cambodia
