On 14 March 2024, APLE, in partnership with PSE and under the support of World Childhood Foundation, orchestrated an awareness-raising seminar focused on safeguarding children in the digital realm. This crucial gathering, attended by 35 teachers (17 females), illuminated the complex landscape of online risks and the paramount importance of protecting our youngest internet users.
The workshop delved into the nuances of child rights in the digital age, types of Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA), and practical tips for ensuring online safety. Participants also explored avenues for help and support, empowering them with the knowledge to act as first responders in the digital safety net for children.
One teacher encapsulated the sentiment of many, stating, “I have learned about online risks, how to protect children and keep them safe online.” This reflection underscores the event’s success in not only enhancing the participants’ understanding but also in equipping them with actionable strategies to foster safer online environments for children.
Through initiatives like this, APLE and its partners are forging a path towards a more secure digital future for children, highlighting the critical role of education and awareness in combating online threats.
