On Tuesday, 11 February 2025, Cambodia joined the global community in celebrating the 22nd edition of Safer Internet Day under the theme ‘Smart Kids Understand Internet Safety and Know How to Protect Themselves Online’ The event was a remarkable success, thanks to the collective efforts of participants and organizers in fostering a safer digital environment.
The celebration witnessed high participation, attracting 1,728 diverse attendees, including students, teachers, government officials, law enforcement personnel, content creators, social media influencers, and representatives from the private sector, NGOs, and media outlets. This broad participation underscored a shared commitment to online safety across various sectors.
The event exceeded expectations in terms of engagement, facilitating vibrant exchanges of information and raising awareness about critical online safety issues such as grooming, sexual extortion, AI-generated CSAM, cyberbullying, and digital identity. These discussions highlighted the essential roles stakeholders play in promoting responsible digital technology use.
Significant interest from government and private sector representatives marked growing support for the campaign, which is crucial for advocating Safer Internet Day as a national observance in Cambodia. This support bolsters a collective commitment to digital safety.
Children and youth particularly enjoyed the event’s engaging activities, including videos, quizzes, and interactive sessions, which were both fun and educational. These activities reinforced key online safety messages in an accessible and memorable way.
