On January 31, 2024, APLE Cambodia orchestrated a pivotal awareness-raising event, shedding light on the critical issue of online child sexual exploitation and abuse. Supported by the World Childhood Foundation of Sweden, this program was meticulously designed to fortify the expertise of teachers and academic staff, equipping them with the vital knowledge and tools to combat this digital menace.
A participant’s reflection, “I have learned about online child sexual exploitation and abuse which could happen to children and could keep them safe,” underscores the event’s profound impact. This initiative is a testament to APLE’s commitment to not only raising awareness but also empowering educators with the competence to act as frontline defenders of children’s digital safety.
By investing in the training of teachers and academic staff, APLE aims to create a safer online environment for children. The knowledge imparted during the workshop enables educators to identify risks, intervene effectively, and provide the necessary guidance to prevent online exploitation. This proactive approach is crucial in safeguarding the well-being of children, ensuring they navigate the digital world securely and confidently.
