Kampot: On 31st of May, 2019, Action Pour Les Enfants (APLE Cambodia), with the financial support of Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdHNL), celebrated the launching of a child-friendly interview room within the Anti- Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Unit in the Kampot Provincial Police Commissariat.Ā
The establishment of this room aims to ease the process of forensic interviews with possible child victims of sexual abuse and exploitation, minimising their chances of re-traumatisation. This child-friendly room is an already established initiative in other provinces as an essential part of our Criminal Justice Development Program which works closely with the Cambodian National Police, promoting the practice of child-friendly standards during the investigation.Ā Ā
The Chief of the Kampot Anti Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Unit, Mr. Chen Ov, declared: Ā āWe have closely and successfully worked alongside APLEās staff to investigate cases of child sexual abuse and exploitation. One the greatest assets of the Child-friendly room initiative is its creativity, as well as its promotion of the culture of partnership and collaboration between the police officers and the child victims and witnesses. In provinces where the room has been set up, it has proved to establish positive interactions and build trust between the parties involvedā.
