On April 30, three Red Cross Youth groups from Phnom Penh participated in a Peer Educator Training organized by APLE in collaboration with the Cambodian Red Cross. These young leaders have since been actively raising awareness about child sexual exploitation and abuse within their schools.
The youth group from Borey 100 Khnang High School has already held three awareness sessions on May 6th and 7th, successfully reaching 206 students. They employed interactive methods such as quizzes, presentations, and open discussions to convey important safety messages. More sessions are in the pipeline, including some scheduled during free class time.
Other Red Cross youth groups from various high schools are also gearing up for outreach activities. For example, the Bak Touk High School group is planning an awareness campaign targeting 150 of their peers this May. These young advocates are commendable for using their voices and leadership skills to help safeguard their communities. APLE is committed to supporting this initiative by providing training and mentorship to more youth leaders.
By empowering children and youth to take the lead, we foster a proactive culture of awareness and prevention that is crucial for combating child sexual exploitation. This grassroots approach not only educates young people but also builds a network of informed individuals dedicated to creating a safer environment for everyone.
