Global Efforts Intensify to Regulate Child-Centered Voluntourism in Cambodia

APLE Cambodia Leads Initiatives at Global Roundtable

APLE Cambodia’s Executive Director, Mr. Seila Samleang, participated in a critical Global Roundtable on Regulating Voluntourism in Bangkok on December 17-18. This event marked one year since the UN report on regulating voluntourism involving children. It brought together nearly 60 representatives from civil society organizations worldwide.

The roundtable provided a platform to assess global progress in addressing voluntourism-related child exploitation. Participants discussed ongoing challenges and key implementing partners, including APLE Cambodia, ECPAT Philippines, and ECPAT Sri Lanka. They collaborated with ECPAT members from various countries to strengthen collective efforts.

Mr. Samleang also attended a project meeting focused on evaluating ongoing initiatives. Participants shared lessons learned and strategized future actions. This gathering highlighted the importance of multi-disciplinary cooperation. It emphasized shared responsibility in protecting children from exploitation in voluntourism.

APLE Cambodia plays a vital role in shaping global strategies to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The event underscored the urgent need for continued action and collaboration. It emphasized ensuring child-friendly practices in voluntourism and strengthening child protection mechanisms worldwide.
