A significant milestone in child online protection was achieved when the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport (MoEYS) partnered with APLE Cambodia. They formalized their commitment to promoting Internet safety in schools. On December 13, 2024, Her Excellency Kim Sethany and Mr. Samleang Seila signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to safeguard children from online sexual exploitation and abuse.
This collaborative initiative, called the Promoting Internet Safety in Education project, focuses on strengthening schools’ capacity. It develops tailored resources to integrate online safety into school curricula. The project takes a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach. It actively engages school management, teachers, education officials, parents, community members, and children. This inclusive strategy underscores shared responsibility in creating a safer digital environment for Cambodia’s children.
This partnership ensures the implementation of effective and sustainable initiatives. The MoU marks a significant step forward in APLE’s mission to enhance child online protection. They aim to combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA) through preventative education and community engagement.
As online threats continue to evolve, this partnership highlights the importance of proactive measures. Safeguarding children requires immediate and concerted efforts. The joint effort between APLE and MoEYS sends a clear message: the time to act is now. Through preventative education, we can create a safer digital future for Cambodia’s children.
