APLE and Ministry of Interior Strengthen Partnership Against Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

Renewed Partnership Focuses on Combating Child Exploitation and Strengthening Protection Efforts in Cambodia.

In a significant move, APLE and the Ministry of Interior renewed their partnership for five more years. This renewed commitment was formalized on October 30, 2024. It marks a crucial step in fighting child sexual exploitation and human trafficking in Cambodia.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by H.E. Chou Bun Eng and Mr. Seila Samleang. H.E. Chou Bun Eng is the State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. Mr. Seila Samleang is the Executive Director of APLE Cambodia. This partnership exemplifies the power of private-public collaboration. It underscores the shared responsibility in protecting Cambodia’s children.

The renewed partnership will focus on four key areas. First, enhancing victim support services for survivors of child sexual exploitation. This ensures a victim-focused approach. Second, capacity building for law enforcement. This involves strengthening officials’ skills and knowledge to combat these crimes effectively. Third, improving internet hotline operations. This will enhance mechanisms for reporting and responding to online child exploitation. Fourth, expanding preventative education efforts. This aims to raise awareness and prevent child sexual exploitation.

APLE’s continued collaboration with the Ministry of Interior reinforces its role in fighting child sexual exploitation. This partnership enhances the country’s capacity to address current challenges. It also positions Cambodia to respond effectively to emerging threats in the digital age.

As online risks to children evolve, this renewed commitment sends a powerful message. The time to act is now. Through sustained cooperation and dedicated effort, APLE and the Ministry of Interior work towards creating a safer environment. This applies to Cambodia’s children both online and offline.
