On June 24, 2024, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced a Cambodian man to 6 months in prison for committing indecent acts against a 14-year-old girl from the Philippines. This judgment followed a hearing on June 17, 2024, and was based on Article 43 of the Law on Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation.
The court also ordered the man to pay 8 million riels in compensation to the victim. This sentencing underscores the judicial system’s commitment to combatting online crimes against children and providing justice for victims.
Throughout the justice process, APLE provided psychological support and legal assistance to the victim, ensuring her well-being and empowerment. In collaboration with a partner NGO, APLE facilitated the recovery of the survivor, offering resources and counseling to help her navigate the challenges following the incident and facilitating her reintegration into society.
