BAKC and APLE Cambodia Train Legal Aid Lawyers in Child-Friendly Practice for Cases of Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
Phnom Penh, 22 September 2026: The Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia (BAKC) and APLE Cambodia trained 53 legal aid lawyers from 25 provinces and municipalities in child-friendly legal practice for cases of child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSEA). Participants included representatives from all four regional Courts of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
The training strengthened participants’ knowledge of children’s rights and of the legal framework governing CSEA, including its online forms (OCSEA). It also built their skills in delivering child-friendly legal services centred on children’s best interests.
Key topics included:
▪️ Legal frameworks, children’s rights, and the role of lawyers in child protection
▪️ Sharing experience and amplifying children’s voices in criminal justice proceedings
▪️ Child-friendly legal practice and protection of child victims’ rights
▪️ Forensic interviewing of child victims
Attorney Mr. Kim Socheat, Secretary-General of the BAKC, delivered the closing remarks on behalf of BAKC President Attorney Mr. Sang Vannak. He thanked the speakers and participants for sharing their experience and expressed hope that the partnership between BAKC and APLE Cambodia will continue to create new opportunities for the legal profession.
