Siem Reap, Cambodia – Today’s afternoon Siem Reap provincial court charges Korean man, 43, with Purchase of child prostitution and child pornography of three girls aged 10, 14 and 16 years old.
The suspect was arrested after three girls, 10, 14 and 16 years old, had testified to the police that he had sexually abused them. The suspect lived in Cambodia for many years and got engaged with two of the girls after he provided their families with money. After living together with the underage girls for a short period, he would leave them and get engage with a new girl.
During the arrest, several electronic devices were confiscated from the suspect. Careful preliminary examination revealed child pornographic materials made by the suspect and displaying one of the victims. More examination is needed to see the full amount of materials possessed and made by the suspect.
APLE had been investigating the suspect since December 2015 after a report was made about his relationship with a street girl (10) and her mother.
Khoem Vando, Deputy Director at APLE, said about the case:
“It is really heartbreaking to hear what the girls had to endure during their engagement. APLE will offer to provide all victims with social support and legal representation. We will stand by these girls until justice has been served.”
APLE currently is running an Internet Hotline where the general public can report suspected incidents of online exploitation, including child pornography. The hotline will be officially launched in February, but reports can already be made.
