This morning, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court convicted Cambodian nationals Chan Sreylak, Soeun Sreypov and Kim Laiseak for aggravated procurement of and soliciting for child prostitution. Each of them was sentenced to five years in prison and they were ordered to pay, together, two million riels as compensation to each victim.
The three men were arrested by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Unit in 2013, on suspicion of victimizing three girls aged between 14 and 16 years. At the hearing, held in two parts – June 12 and July 28 –, all the accused confessed to the crimes and the three victims testified against them.
This is the eighth APLE case in which the Phnom Penh Municipal Court announces a guilty verdict this year. In total, only in the capital nine Cambodians and two foreigners were convicted for sexual offense against children in 2014; together, their imprisonment sentences totalize 66 years.
