A South Korean missionary was arrested and charged yesterday by the Siem Reap Provincial Court for allegedly having sex with eight poor Cambodian girls who lived at his church in Siem Reap City, according to provincial police.

He was identified as 62-year-old Chung Park, the head of a Christian church in Chung Kaosu village in Slor Kram commune, according to Colonel Duong Thavry, chief of the provincial anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection unit.

Col. Thavry said Mr. Park was arrested after provincial anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection police raided his church and rescued nine girls yesterday morning.

“He was the pastor and ran a church in Siem Reap. He allowed about 20 poor girls and their families to live with him and he supported them,” she told Khmer Times yesterday.

“But he sexually abused them and had sex with them on multiple occasions and bought motorbikes and other valuable things for them.”

Mr. Park was charged yesterday evening with “purchase of child prostitution” under article 34 of the Law on Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation and faces three to five years in jail if found guilty, Col. Thavry added.

She said that according to the victims, Mr. Park sexually abused and had sex with eight girls, aged 11 to 16, in the church, adding that he started working at the church in 2005.
