Yesterday, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court heard the case of famous Cambodian singer Chanta S., charged with Procurement of Child Prostitution and Unlawful Removal of a Minor with Purpose. She is accused of bringing a 14-year-old girl to a man for sexual purposes in exchange for money.
APLE’s 3 month long investigation into this, executed by APLE’s child protection team, after receiving complaints received from the child’s parents, eventually triggered legal action by the Police. The anti-human trafficking police arrested the 36-year-old karaoke star at beginning of this year in her premises.
The minor explained to police how she was groomed by the accused, who tricked her, by promising, she’d become a famous singer, after she had sex with Chanta S’s clients.
After yesterday’s unfinished hearing, the victim is scheduled to testify about her suffering in court at a later date.
