Mr. Seila Samleang, Executive Director of APLE, had the distinguished opportunity to speak on vicarious trauma and preventative education at the Crimes Against Children workshop, held on Oct 14, 2024, in Phnom Penh. This significant event was organized by the Australian Attorney-General’s Department, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), and Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice. It brought together 50 prosecutors and judges from across Cambodia to enhance their understanding and response to crimes against children.
During the workshop, a colleague from A21, APLE’s partner organization, delivered a crucial presentation on the impact of Online Child Sexual Exploitation and the pivotal role of Child Advocacy Centers. Together, APLE and A21 underscored the urgent need to protect the rights of OCSE victims, emphasizing the importance of a victim-centered approach in legal proceedings and support services.
This collaborative effort highlights the commitment of both organizations to advancing legal and educational frameworks that better protect children from online exploitation and provide comprehensive support to those affected.
