Siem Reap: On 31 October 2017, Siem Reap provincial court charged the Czech man, 46, of having sexual intercourse with a minor under fifteen years based on Article 42 of the Law on Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation. This offence carries a sentence of between 5 to 10 years. The man has been remanded in pre-trial detention to await further investigation by the court.

Siem Reap Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection police arrested the Czech man on 29th of October 2017 after police heard the sexual allegation from a 14-year-old girl who lived in a district of Siem Reap.

APLE provided assistance to the police investigating the incident. Various items were confiscated during the search of the suspect’s house.

APLE Cambodia and its partner organizations have commenced their support for the girl and her family and will continue to do so during the judicial process.

Mr. Khoem Vando, APLE Program Director, applauds the quick action displayed by Siem Reap provincial anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection police.

“A key objective of APLE Cambodia is to safeguard children at risk of sexual abuse from travelling sex offenders and it is vital that communities are educated to raise awareness of techniques used by sex offenders such as ‘grooming.’ Swift police action in these cases greatly assists in preventing abuse from occurring.”
