What is grooming?

Grooming of children for sexual purposes refers to the act of soliciting a child, either in person or through the use of the internet for sexual purposes such as to receive sexual images online or to meet in person to sexually exploit him/her.

Online grooming occurs when an older person deceives someone under 18 into believing they have a close relationship, with the intent to sexually abuse them. In some countries, this is illegal and must be reported to the police and/or the online platform where the contact was made.
