Introduction Session 1
The internet has become one of the most popular platforms in the world to communicate with other people. Children in particular are the fastest population to access the internet and today 1 in every 3 internet users is said to be a child. It is a place where children can express themselves and learn, communicate and find entertainment. It may seem harmless therefore as a parent to give your child an ICT device such as a smartphone or tablet to keep them entertained, leaving them with the liberty to do as they please.
Unfortunately, the internet contains many different risks to children and without the proper guidance on safe ways of using the internet, they may be exposed to risks. As a parent, make sure you are fully aware of these risks and safe online behavior before you allow your child to go online, and educate them on the ways to make smart online decisions.
After this session you will be able to:
- Identify online behavior that can be risky
- Recognize common online platforms that are used by children
- Identify areas of risk on online platforms
